Snapchat's My AI: Technical Glitches and Unintended Stories

"My AI," the in-app digital assistant that oversees your Snapchat Plus experience, has experienced numerous breakdowns and technical malfunctions since its debut in February.

Stories are essentially short-lived entries available for viewing for 24 hours. However, the content posted is also gaining attention, with Snapchat's "My AI" uploading a story as if it were a real user.

“My Snapchat AI posted a random 1-second story and isn’t replying to me AND I'M FREAKED OUT,” posted one user, @RyanJKrul on X (formerly Twitter).

“I think I’ve seen this film before…and I didn’t like the ending,” wrote another user @repmiIas on X.

Though the incident made for some great tweets (er, posts), we regret to inform you that My AI did not develop self-awareness and a desire to express itself through Snapchat Stories.

Instead, the situation arose because of a technical outage, just as the bot explained.

As first reported by TechCrunch, the My AI chatbot posted a two-tone image in Stories, which one user mistook for a shot of their ceiling.

Moreover, upon being asked about the mysterious post, the bot would either go dark or respond that it was suffering a technical issue.

This explanation proved insufficient for many users, causing minor panic and jokes about the AI system's imminent awakening. However, in the end, it was genuinely a technical issue.

Following the technical problem in which Snapchat AI published and deleted its own story, the AI chatbot reacted to users with the words 'Sorry, I had a technical difficulty,' leaving users concerned about the safety of using Snapchat AI.

While the reasons behind these unusual glitches are unknown, they have sparked interest and discussion among Snapchat users. It will be intriguing to see if Snapchat addresses and resolves these concerns in the future.
