Mediatek Teases the Dimensity 8000 Chip

MediaTek, which recorded staggering growth in the recent past, had announced the availability of its next-gen flagship chipset Dimensity 9000 yesterday.

While the flagship phones powered by the new Dimensity 9000 are expected to start shipping in early 2022, the company has now teased another for slightly cheaper phones.

Almost a month after announcing its latest and most powered SoC, MediaTek has teased a new chip, the Dimensity 8000 at a press conference. The new chip from the company will be an affordable alternative to the MediaTek Dimensity 9000.

Though the company hasn’t revealed much about this new chipset, tipsters like Digital Chat Station, who’s had an impressive record of leaking details of unreleased products, has given us a sneak peek at the upcoming SoC.

At the event, the company only revealed the name of the chip and mentioned that it isn't ready to reveal other details about the chip as of now.

Mediatek Dimensity 8000 Specifications (Expected)

However, the rumour mill has already revealed that the chip will use the older TSMC’s 5nm process instead of the latest 4nm process. The 5nm chip will still offer better performance and efficiency compared to the Dimensity 1000 series chip which is based on the 6nm process.

As far as other rumored specification of the chip is concerned, the Dimensity 8000 is expected to use the older ARMv8 design that includes 4 x Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.75GHz and four low power Cortex A55 cores clocked at 2GHz. It would have been great if the company would have opted for the latest scores, but slightly detuned – A710 and A510 – like the Dimensity 9000.

In terms of GPU, the chip is expected to feature the latest Mali-G510 MC6 CPU which claims to offer better performance and more efficiency than the previous-generation GPUs.

Apart from that, the chip can handle up to 168Hz displays at 1080p resolution and 1440 displays at 120Hz. It also supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

Smartphones with the Dimensity 8000 chip is expected to roll out next year.
