Apple Adds New Payment Features For Indian Users Including UPI, RuPay And Net Banking.

Apple has introduced three new payment modes for the App Store in India. This will allow users to choose from additional payment options if they want to make a purchase.


The new payment modes on the Apple App Store include Unified Payments Interface (UPI), RuPay cards, and Net Banking. Before this, Apple App Store and iTunes only accepted credit cards or Visa and MasterCard debit cards.


Apple advises users to be on the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or MacOS to be able to see these new payment options.

These will come in handy for Indian users as it will allow them to make purchases or in-app purchases without having to use their credit or debit card. Apple sent out notifications to users that they can now make payments using UPI, RuPay, and Net Banking.

The Cupertino tech giant sent out notifications to App Store users that they can now make payments using UPI, RuPay, and net-banking.


The notification reads, “New ways to pay for content you love. You can now use UPI, RuPay cards, and net-banking to pay on the App Store.”

A separate page details how users can set up any of the new methods. Apple advises users to be on the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS to be able to see these new payment options.


How to add payment method on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

After the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS is installed, users can try the following steps to add new payment options.

  • Go to Settings

  • Tap on Apple ID

  • Select Payment and Shipping (a user might be asked to sign in)

  • Tap 'Add Payment Method'

  • In the screen that comes up, select a preferred payment method

    • If a user selects RuPay Card, then details such as card number, expiry date and other credentials on the card will be required

    • If a user selects UPI as a payment method, then the UPI ID has to be entered

    • If a user selects Net banking as a payment method, then bank name and other details are to be entered

  • Users can also keep multiple payment methods at the same time and reorder them by editing the preferences

  • Once the payment option is set, users will be able to make payments within the Apple App Store and iTunes using UPI, RuPay or Net banking.

How to add payment method on your Mac

If you're on macOS, follow the steps below:

  • Open the App Store, click on the sign-in button, tap on View Information.

  • Next to Payment Information, click on Manage Payments. Users may be asked to sign-in once again for security.

  • Click on Add a payment method > Add Payment. Follow the steps to add UPI, RuPay, or netbanking details.
